As we grow up to be teenagers – we would like to explore in the
subject area that are most suitable to our own characters. At Heathfield International School, AS Level
has given us an ultimate experience to start off, as we are shifting into an adulthood
state for the rest of our life. If you
have not heard about it or not so sure how it would be like, let me just give
you 7 explanations on being AS Level and A Level pupils.
1. First of all, AS Level and A Level are the
traditional qualifications offered by schools in the United Kingdom for 16-19
years-old pupils. That is the reason why A Level is recognised by Universities
around the world and friends from the UK have a similar experience in schools
just like us.
2. Our learning is subjects specific
focused. In Year 12 we normally choose 4
subjects for our AS Level to focus on. Then
as we discover what they are really good at, we can choose to drop one subject
off in A Level the next year.
3. As AS Level and A Level lessons are more
complicated than IGCSE’s in Year 11, we would get a timetable to study
independently by reading, making questions, researching, and analysing the
results logically. At Heathfield
International School, we have our own space that supports our flexible learning
styles. We can use the computers in the
A-Level room known as the common room or even sit around the sofas to relax or
discuss our studies with our friends.
4. While we take a lot of time in learning
individually, we also make new friends as we spend time in the A-Level
room. When our teachers assign us the group projects, we get the chance to brainstorm
our ideas on the whiteboard. Of course, the A-Level room is the place that we can
socialise in our free time as well.
5. Our assessments are mostly by written
examination and coursework. While we
need to practice for examinations, for those who choose Arts as one of the
subjects can refresh their mind with personal creativity based theories that
are learned in the class.
6. Learning AS Level and A Level is
preparation for us to becoming adults, ready for university. Just like I mentioned before – we get the
chance to understand our own identities better and choose subjects that match
well with us. It is the time to grow and
know how to work with professionalism for future career-life. We went
on a trip at DCS (Data Computer Systems) to learn about Information and
Computer Technology and observe real working environment recently.
7. A Level is a gateway to go studying in
universities overseas. While it is the
qualification that is acceptable around the world, it is also a period of time
that we can adapt into university style of learning approaches. Because our teachers facilitate the classroom
like a lecture, we have to be very well-organised in keeping our own notes and
research more in-depth. With the
motivation that one day we would be able to spread our wings and fly far from
home, we are happy that A Level is a great educational choice that we have made.
At Heathfield
International School, we are offering AS Level and A Level with a variety of
subjects from Maths to Biology, Physics, Applied Information Computer
Technology and Art. We assure that our
pupils would enjoy exploring that field of studies that matter to them as well
as be able to prepare themselves for future careers. For more information, you may visit our
