v First of all, please introduce yourself.
My name is Thanapat Bekanan.
Everyone knows me as Dean. I graduated from Heathfield in 2009 or 10. I am not
sure. I am currently studying International Politics/Relations at Aberystwyth
University, UK.
v What is the
reason you choose to study at Aberystwyth University?
It has one of the most renowned programs
for International Politics/Relations.
v Normally
everyone has to prepare themselves before entering to university. So what about you, how did you prepare yourself?
First of all,
you have to really do a research about where you want to go and then work your
way up.
v Did you have to adjust yourself to the new environment?
No, not at all. I
think the reason that I don’t have to adjust myself here much is due to the
environment which I had at Heathfield which was very British-oriented.
v What is your particular ways of getting into the university?
I do not have any particular
ways of getting into the university. The only thing I can suggest is that the
sooner you know about what you are really interested in the better it is as you
can do a prior study about it.
v What class which you started at Heathfield?
Year 7
v Could you
please give the definition of Heathfiled?
When I first visited Heathfield
International School, the word ‘unique’ was and is not enough to describe the
school. After being educated there for a few years, I came to the conclusion
that Heathfield should be described as a‘quirky’ place to study. Not only that
the qualities of teachers were unquestionable, but also the way they push each
student with care to meet the standard that s/he should be was very effective.
Meanwhile, they also encouraged students to use independent thinking when
discussing any issues in class. What impressed me the most about the school is
the size of classes which were very small, meaning that teachers could address
different weaknesses of each student thoroughly according to their need.
v What is your the
most impression at Heathfield?
Well, this is a very difficult
question to answer really as I was not a very good student (back then) in the
eyes of many teachers which means that I am not proud of many of my experiences
lol. But to point out a few, I would say that I am impressed with my
performance in PE and English class the most.
v You got many
experiences from school .Well, did you
bring anything to adjust to your
lifestyle?
Honestly speaking, what I learned from Heathfield did not
bear fruit during my time there but after I graduated. If any of my HF friends can
recall what Mr.Steve (O’Corner) always kept reiterating, it will be about the
importance of reading. He always told us why it is necessary for us as a
student to love reading. But as ordinary teenagers, we did not bother to follow
his advice.
However,
after being in a university for quite a while, I get his message. From a lazy
student who liked to bully friends and teachers in class, I’ve become a decent
college student who acted unconsciously according to what I had been suggested to
do back then.
v What is your
trick of the successful?
The most important thing is to
choose a path that you have passion the most. Time management is also crucially
important.
v Would you
like to send any messages to Heathfield pupils?
Just be yourself. Do not pretend to be who you are not.
And become successful because of who you are, “not what the society wants you
to be”.
Remember what Michel Foucault said (1990:94)
“Power
comes from below”
v Finally, would you like to say anything to Heathfield teachers?
I
just want to say thank you to all of the HF teachers who were with me,
especially those who influenced me the most; Mr. Stephen O’ Corner, Mr. Brendan
Bourne, Mr. David Walters, and Mr. Jon…..sorry I forgot his last name lol
